Civil Rights

Technology has not just made work easier and faster in the work place, it has also made monitoring employees easily. From parking garage systems to phone calls, almost every employee movement are being monitored by employers. Certain civil rights groups are lobbying against these practices because according to them, it violates the employee's privacy and personal rights.

As I am sure you are aware, February is African-American History Month in the United States. This is the time of year when most schools will present some program to their students discussing Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and maybe Rosa Parks. However, there are many unsung heroes of the Civil Rights Movement and many contributions made by Blacks historically, that impact our society today.

Our police officers must understand that when the good police officer cover up for the criminal officer they are responsible for the next officer who commits suicide or gets shot down by an angry citizen. Justice must be served to everybody including corrupt law enforcement agents who violate our Civil Rights and commits a crime against us; the American Citizens. The uniform does not protect the person from participating in criminal behaviors.

In most areas of society, women occupy the same social standings as men, and are provided with equal rights. Unfortunately, 100% equality has not yet been reached. One of the areas in which this is most visible is in the area of employment and employment law. Women are frequently discriminated against in the work place on the basis of gender-often because of issues connected to pregnancy or the possibility of pregnancy.

The Workman's Compensation or sometimes called Workers Comp is a system of laws that protect the injured worker while on duty. The main goal of this law to ensure that anybody in the workplace who gets injured receives the proper medical care, loss wages, rehabilitation and retraining to be able to go back to the workforce immediately. If workers get killed while on duty, the family members of the worker are eligible to claim the benefits.
